Acute, domiciliary and long-term nursing care at two state homes

Massachusetts runs two veterans homes, in Holyoke and Chelsea, providing acute hospital care, domiciliary care and long-term nursing care. Both offer physical and occupational therapy, laboratory and radiology services, an outpatient department, social services, recreational activities and religious services. Chelsea offers residential and long-term care; Holyoke offers long-term health care.

What you'll need

Your DD214 or other discharge documentation, proof you were a Massachusetts resident before applying, and medical documentation supporting the level of care you need.

Eligibility

  • You were a Massachusetts resident before you applied
  • You served at least 90 consecutive days on active duty, not counting active duty for training, with one day during a time of war and received a discharge other than dishonorable, or you received the Purple Heart or have a service-connected disability rating and so do not have to meet the time in service requirement
  • You are considered a veteran by the VA, or you were awarded a service-connected disability rating during active duty or training, including as a Reserve or National Guard member
