Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemeteries, under the Executive Office of Veterans Services
No-cost burial for veterans, nominal fee for eligible family members

Massachusetts has two state veterans cemeteries, at Agawam and Winchendon, offering casketed burials, cremated remains burials, columbarium niches and a chapel for committal services. Veterans are buried at no cost, and eligible family members are charged a nominal fee.

What you'll need

The veteran’s DD214 or other discharge documentation, and a marriage certificate or dependent documentation for family members.

Eligibility

  • You were discharged from active duty under conditions other than dishonorable, died while serving on active duty, served at least 20 years in the National Guard or Reserves and are eligible for military retired pay or would have been but for death before age 60, or were a reserve component member activated for federal service
  • Your spouse and children qualify through you, with children limited to unmarried children under 21, under 23 if a full-time student at an approved institution, or a child who developed a lifelong disability before age 21
