Michigan Children of Veteran's Tuition Grant

Up to $2,800 per year and $11,200 in total

Undergraduate tuition help for the children of certain veterans and service members, usable at any Michigan community college, public university or independent degree-granting institution. Full-time students receive up to $2,800, three-quarter-time students up to $2,100 and half-time students up to $1,400. You can receive the grant for up to four academic years or a total of $11,200, whichever comes first.

What you'll need

The veteran's discharge paperwork and VA rating or casualty documentation, proof of the veteran's Michigan residency, proof you are their natural or adopted child, your high school diploma or recognized equivalent, and a FAFSA on file for each year.

Eligibility

  • You have been a Michigan resident for at least one year before you apply
  • You are the natural or adopted child of a qualifying Michigan veteran or service member
  • You are between 16 and 26 years old
  • You are enrolled at least half time at a participating Michigan institution
  • You are a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or approved refugee
  • You have a high school diploma or a recognized equivalent
  • You have never been convicted of a felony involving assault, physical injury or death
  • You are not in default on a federal student loan
  • The veteran was a Michigan resident immediately before entering the U.S. Armed Forces and did not later live outside Michigan for more than two years, or established legal residency in Michigan after entering service
  • The veteran was killed in action or died from another cause while serving in a war or under war conditions, has a total and permanent service-connected disability rating from the VA, held such a rating and later died, or was declared missing in action
