Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), through each professional regulating agency
Military experience credited, renewal and initial fees waived, and temporary spouse licenses

You can count military experience toward Michigan professional licensing requirements, and while you are on active duty you are exempt from renewal fees and continuing education requirements. Veterans can have initial license, registration or application processing fees waived, spouses of active duty service members can get a temporary license, and the VA may reimburse your examination fees.

Contact the agency that regulates your profession to find out which of these benefits you qualify for. The Michigan LARA listing of professional licenses shows which agency that is.

What you'll need

Your DD214 or current military orders, documentation of the military training and experience you want counted, and your marriage certificate if you are a spouse applying for a temporary license.

Eligibility

  • You are an active duty service member, a veteran, or the spouse of one
  • You hold or are applying for a Michigan occupational or professional license
  • You contact the agency that regulates your profession to confirm which of the benefits apply to you
