Michigan Disabled Veteran License Plate

Disabled Veteran plate design, transferable to a surviving spouse

Honorably discharged veterans with a 100% VA disability rating, or an individual unemployability rating paid at the 100% rate, can get the Michigan Disabled Veteran license plate. A surviving spouse can transfer the plate into their own name. If you also want disability parking privileges, submit a Michigan Disability Parking Placard Application.

How to apply

Submit a completed Michigan Application for Veteran License Plates (BDVR-87) with your VA rating documentation at any Michigan Secretary of State branch office, or by mail to Michigan Department of State, Internal Services Section, 7064 Crowner Dr, Lansing, MI 48918. Add the Disability Parking Placard Application if you want parking privileges.

What you'll need

Your DD214 and a VA letter showing a 100% rating or an individual unemployability rating paid at the 100% rate. A surviving spouse also needs the veteran’s death certificate.

Eligibility

  • You are registering a passenger car, pickup truck, van or motor home in Michigan
  • You received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Armed Forces
  • You have a 100% disability rating from the VA, you have an individual unemployability rating and are paid at the 100% rate, or you are the surviving spouse of a deceased veteran who held this plate
