Michigan Military and Veteran License Plates

31 military and veteran plate designs

Michigan offers 31 license plate designs honoring service members, veterans, retired service members and family members. Veteran plates can go on passenger cars, pickup trucks, vans and motor homes. Trailers and vehicles used commercially are not eligible.

How to apply

Submit a completed Michigan Application for Veteran License Plates (BDVR-87) with proof of eligibility at any Michigan Secretary of State branch office (select "Schedule a Visit" to make an appointment), or mail it to Michigan Department of State, Internal Services Section, 7064 Crowner Dr, Lansing, MI 48918. The Gold Star Family plate uses a different application.

What you'll need

Official documentation proving your eligibility for the specific plate, such as your DD214, award documentation, VA rating letter or casualty paperwork.

  • You are registering a passenger car, pickup truck, van or motor home in Michigan
  • You qualify for one of the 31 military or veteran plate designs
  • You can provide official documentation proving your eligibility
