Michigan pays former Michigan National Guard members a state retirement benefit of $600 a year ($50 a month) starting at age 55 or the effective date of your application, whichever is later. It is on top of any federal retirement pay, is not subject to Michigan income tax, and is subject to federal income tax. It is not automatic and it is not retroactive, so apply as soon as you can.

Box 30171, Lansing, MI 48909-7671, or by fax to 517-284-4416. You can apply up to three months before you separate or up to three months before you turn 55.
Your completed retirement application and your service records showing at least 19 years, 6 months and 1 day of active service in the Michigan National Guard.
