Michigan National Guard State Tuition Assistance Program

Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA)
Up to $6,000 for training, certificate or master’s programs and up to $14,400 for an associate or bachelor’s degree

Tuition help if you serve in the Michigan National Guard and attend a public or private college, university, vocational school, technical school or trade school located in Michigan. Funding depends on the program you enroll in: up to $6,000 for training or certificate programs, up to $14,400 for an associate or bachelor’s degree, and up to $6,000 for a master’s degree. Spouses and dependent children of eligible members can also receive assistance.

What you'll need

Proof you are in good standing in the Michigan National Guard, your training records showing basic training is complete, and your school enrollment and tuition information. A spouse or child applies using the service member’s information plus proof of the relationship.

Eligibility

  • You are a Michigan National Guard service member, or the spouse or child of one
  • You have completed basic training and are reserved for or have completed Advanced Individual or Technical Training
  • You are not under Michigan Code of Military Justice or Uniform Code of Military Justice action, absent without leave, or under suspension of favorable actions or adverse administrative actions
  • You are not flagged for the Service Fitness Test within the last 12 months before mobilization, or within the last 6 months if you are Active Guard Reserve, unless you have a physical profile exempting you from the test
  • You are not flagged for height and weight, and your compliant date is no more than 8 months before you apply
  • You meet National Guard recruiting and retention requirements
  • If you are applying as a service member’s child, you have graduated high school and are at least 18 but not yet 26 years old
