You can have "Veteran" printed on your Michigan driver’s license or state ID card as proof of your military service.

How to apply

Apply at any Michigan Secretary of State branch office (select "Schedule a Visit" to make an appointment), or mail your application and documents to Michigan Department of State, Renewal by Mail Unit, Lansing, MI 48918. For questions call 888-767-6424.

What you'll need

One of these as proof: a DD214 or DD215 (any copy except Copy 1), NGB Form 22 or 23, WD AGO 53-55, GSA 6594, NAVPERS 553, or a VA Veteran Health ID.

Eligibility

  • You served in an active or reserve component of the U.S. Armed Forces
  • You received an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions
  • You can provide a DD214 or DD215 (any copy except Copy 1), NGB Form 22 or 23, WD AGO 53-55, GSA 6594, NAVPERS 553, or a VA Veteran Health ID
