You can claim a credit of up to $1,900 against the property taxes on your Michigan primary residence. For most people the credit compares your household income with your property taxes. Your homestead can have a taxable value of up to $165,400, and veterans who rent their home can also claim a credit of up to $1,900.
File online through the Michigan E-File system, or mail a Michigan Homestead Property Tax Credit Claim for Veterans and Blind People (Form MI-1040CR-2) to the Michigan Department of Treasury, Lansing, MI 48956.
Your property tax statement or rent receipts, your income records for the year, and proof of the basis you are claiming on: your VA disability rating letter, evidence of military retired pay, or a death certificate and marriage record for a surviving spouse claim.
