Military Leave for South Carolina State Employees

15 workdays of paid military leave a year, plus 30 more days for combat zone or declared emergency service

As a South Carolina state employee you get 15 workdays of paid military leave a year for training. If you serve on active duty in a combat zone or during a declared emergency and have used all your military leave, you get another 30 days in any one year. You can also use up to 45 days of annual leave and up to 90 days of sick leave in a calendar year to serve on active duty because of an emergency or conflict declared by the President.

How to apply

Give your agency’s human resources office a copy of your military orders and request military leave. For help call the Division of State Human Resources at 803-896-5300 or email DSHR@admin.sc.gov.

Eligibility

  • You are a South Carolina state employee
  • You are a member of the South Carolina National Guard or the U.S. Armed Forces Reserves
  • You are ordered to military training or active duty
