You can get a hunting license or an approval authorizing hunting without holding a firearms safety certificate, if you have completed basic training and are serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Once you are discharged or no longer serving, you have to complete a firearms safety training course if you were born after December 31, 1979.
Show proof that you completed basic training, such as your discharge papers (DD214) or current military ID, to the instructor of the firearms safety course.
