Property managers who offer housing to veterans can draw on three funds, which makes it easier for you to be approved for a tenancy. The Vacancy Relief Fund compensates them while your rental application is processed, for up to 45 days. The Incentive Fund pays a one-time amount of up to $2,000 for renting to a veteran with complex barriers to rental approval. The Risk Mitigation Fund pays up to $2,000 for property damage over and above your security deposit.
There is nothing for you to apply for as a veteran. Your property manager applies using the Homes for Veterans Housing Incentive Fund Application, or by emailing homelessprograms.mdva@state.mn.us.
Nothing from you directly; your property manager provides the tenancy and damage documentation the funds require.
