Minnesota State Veterans Cemeteries

No cost for a veteran’s burial; $1,002 for a spouse or eligible child

Minnesota has four state veterans cemeteries, at Little Falls, Duluth (located in Saginaw), Preston and Redwood Falls. Each provides a gravesite or columbarium niche, a pre-placed standard size grave liner, a headstone or niche cover, and perpetual care. There is no cost for a veteran’s burial. A spouse or eligible child is charged $1,002, which cannot be prepaid and is subject to change.

How to apply

Complete the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery Pre-Registration Application to establish eligibility before there is a need, and contact the cemetery you want: Little Falls 320-616-2527, Duluth 218-520-0120, Preston 507-765-7320, or Redwood Falls 507-709-4390.

What you'll need

Your DD214 or other discharge paperwork, and a marriage certificate or dependent documentation for family members.

Eligibility

  • You were discharged from active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces under conditions other than dishonorable, or died while serving on active duty, or served at least 20 years in the National Guard or U.S. Armed Forces Reserve and are eligible for military retired pay (or would have been but for death before age 60), or served as a reserve component member who was activated for federal service
  • Your spouse and dependent children qualify through you, with children limited to unmarried children under 21, under 23 if a full-time student at an approved educational institution, or a child who developed a lifelong disability before age 21
