Minnesota Veteran-Owned Small Business Procurement Program

12 percent preference on state contracts

A certified veteran-owned small business gets a 12 percent preference when selling products or services to the state or bidding on state construction projects. The state can also set goals that require prime contractors to subcontract part of a construction or consulting contract to certified veteran-owned businesses.

How to apply

Apply for certification through the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs online application portal, creating an account if you are a new user.

What you'll need

Your DD214, proof of your ownership share in the business, and the documentation listed in the certification application.

Eligibility

  • Your business is at least 51 percent owned by a veteran, or by a veteran with a service-connected disability
  • You manage and control the business’s day-to-day and long-term operations as the qualifying owner
  • Your business is located in Minnesota
