Mississippi Extra Free Death and Birth Certificates for a Deceased Veteran

Up to five certified death certificates and one birth certificate, free, in addition to any free copies issued for a VA claim

On top of the free vital-records copies Mississippi already gives you for a VA claim, the Office of Vital Records will also give you up to five certified copies of the death certificate and one birth certificate of an honorably discharged veteran, or of a service member who was killed or died on active duty, at no charge.

How to apply

Apply to the Mississippi Office of Vital Records Registration. Say you are requesting the extra free copies under Miss. Code Ann. § 41-57-26. You must be a person or entity authorized to receive death certificates.

What you'll need

Written evidence of the deceased person’s service in the U.S. Armed Forces, in the form the vital-records office requires, and proof you are authorized to receive the certificates.

Eligibility

  • You are authorized to receive the deceased person’s vital records
  • The deceased person was an honorably discharged veteran, or was killed or died while serving on active duty
