Mississippi Gold Star Family License Plate

One tax and fee exempt plate for the surviving spouse and one for the mother

Family members of a Mississippi resident service member killed in action or who died in a combat zone can get a Gold Star Family licence plate. Eligible family includes the unremarried surviving spouse, children and stepchildren, parents, biological, adopted and stepsiblings, grandparents, grandchildren, aunts and uncles, and a stepparent married to the mother or father of the service member. The surviving spouse and the mother are each authorized one plate that is exempt from property taxes, privilege taxes and all other taxes and fees.

How to apply

Apply at your county tax collector office with documentation of the service member’s death and your relationship to them.

What you'll need

The report of casualty or death certificate showing the service member was killed in action or died in a combat zone, and documentation of your relationship to them.

Eligibility

  • You are a Mississippi resident
  • You are the family member of a Mississippi resident service member who was killed in action or died in a combat zone while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces
