Mississippi Income Tax Credit for Employers That Hire Certain Post-9/11 Veterans

A Mississippi taxpayer who hires, after 1 January 2015, an honorably discharged veteran who served on active duty on or after 11 September 2001 and who was unemployed for six consecutive months immediately before the hire, may claim an annual credit against Mississippi taxes.

How to apply

The employer claims the credit on the Mississippi tax return for the year of the qualifying hire. Contact the Mississippi Department of Revenue for the current form and the credit amount.

What you'll need

The new hire’s DD214 showing honorable discharge and active-duty service on or after 11 September 2001, and payroll records showing six consecutive months of unemployment immediately before the hire.

Eligibility

  • You own or operate a business that files Mississippi taxes
  • You hired, after 1 January 2015, an honorably discharged veteran who served on active duty on or after 11 September 2001 and who was unemployed for six consecutive months immediately before the hire — or you are that veteran and your employer is claiming the credit
