Purple Heart recipients can get Mississippi Purple Heart motor vehicle and motorcycle licence plates for up to five motor vehicles and one motorcycle registered in their name. Only the first Purple Heart plate is exempt from property taxes, privilege taxes and any other taxes and fees. An unremarried surviving spouse can keep or request one of these plates.

Apply at your county tax collector office with proof that you were awarded the Purple Heart.

What you'll need

Proof that you were awarded the Purple Heart, such as your DD214 or award citation, and your vehicle registration information.

Eligibility

You are a Mississippi resident service member or veteran who was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, or the unremarried surviving spouse of one
The vehicle or motorcycle is registered in your name
