You can deduct your military pay from your Missouri taxable income if you are a Missouri resident serving in an active or reserve component of the U.S. Armed Forces. The deduction applies as long as the military pay is included in your federal adjusted gross income.

How to apply

There is nothing separate to apply for. Claim the deduction on your Missouri income tax return for the year. If you have questions, email the Department of Revenue military liaison at military@dor.mo.gov or call 816-236-9440.

What you'll need

Your Leave and Earnings Statements or Form W-2 showing your military pay, and your federal return showing the pay in your federal adjusted gross income.

  • You are a Missouri resident filing a Missouri income tax return
  • You serve in an active or reserve component of the U.S. Armed Forces
  • Your military pay is included in your federal adjusted gross income
