Long-term skilled nursing care at minimal cost at seven state homes

Missouri runs seven nursing homes providing long-term skilled nursing care at minimal cost: Cameron, Cape Girardeau, Mexico, Mt. Vernon, St. James, St. Louis and Warrensburg. Each has a licensed nursing home administrator and registered nurses on duty 24 hours a day, and provides physician care, physical, speech, occupational and recreational therapies, medications, cosmetology and barber services, medical and personal care supplies, social services, and maintenance, environmental, laundry and dietary staff.

How to apply

Contact the admissions coordinator at the veterans home you want and complete the Missouri Veterans Home application packet.

What you'll need

Your DD214, documentation that you meet VA health care eligibility requirements, proof you have lived in Missouri for the 180 consecutive days before applying or that you own a residential home in Missouri, and medical documentation showing you need 24-hour skilled nursing care.

Eligibility

  • You meet the eligibility requirements for VA health care
  • You have been a Missouri resident for the 180 consecutive days immediately before you apply
  • You are physically living in Missouri, or you can prove you own a residential home in Missouri
  • You require 24-hour skilled nursing care
  • You are not on a sex offender registry
  • You have no conviction, guilty plea or plea of nolo contendere in any state for a Class A or B felony
  • The veterans home can accommodate your condition
