You can get an annual education grant if you are the spouse or child of a veteran who was killed or injured in combat. The grant covers actual educational costs up to resident tuition charged at the University of Missouri, Columbia, plus $2,000 per semester for room and board and $500 for books. Only 25 students receive a grant each year, and you stay eligible until you earn a bachelor's degree.
Apply online through the Missouri State Financial Aid Portal and follow the application instructions for the Veteran's Survivor Grant. Check the participating institutions list first to make sure your school takes part.
The veteran's discharge and VA documentation showing the combat-related death, injury or disability rating, proof of the veteran's Missouri residency, proof of your relationship to and dependency on the veteran, and your school enrollment information.
