Your military training and experience can get you a Montana commercial driver license without taking the skills or knowledge tests. School bus, hazardous materials and passenger endorsements cannot be transferred from your military licence.

Submit the Motor Vehicles Division application for military even exchange, including certification by your commanding officer, to any Montana Driver License Exam Station.

What you'll need

The completed application with your commanding officer’s certification, and your military driving record.

Eligibility

You are a current or former service member applying for a Montana commercial driver license
You have not held more than one license, other than a military license, in the past two years
You have not had a license suspended, revoked or cancelled in the past two years
You have no convictions for the disqualifying offenses listed on the application, and no more than one conviction for the serious traffic violations listed on the application
You have no conviction for violating military, state or local traffic laws as a result of a traffic accident, other than a parking violation, and no record of an accident in which you were at fault
