Donated Montana Hunting Licenses for Disabled Service Members and Veterans

Free reissued hunting license for a rehabilitation expedition

Montana residents can donate hunting licenses to be reissued to disabled veterans and disabled service members. A donated license can only be used on hunting expeditions arranged by nonprofits that use hunting as part of their rehabilitation services. You do not have to be a Montana resident or hold a wildlife conservation license to receive one.

How to apply

Contact Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks at 406-444-2535 or fwpgen@mt.gov, and work with the nonprofit organizing the hunting expedition.

What you'll need

Proof of your Purple Heart, your VA or branch of service disability rating documentation, or documentation that you are receiving medical treatment at a medical facility while on active duty.

Eligibility

  • You received the Purple Heart, or you were medically retired for wounds or injuries received in combat and have a 70 percent or greater disability rating from the VA or a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, or you are serving on active duty while receiving medical treatment at a medical facility
  • You are taking part in a hunting expedition arranged by a nonprofit that uses hunting as part of its rehabilitation services
