Montana Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children

Montana Office of Public Instruction, through the Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission
Enrollment, placement, eligibility and graduation protections for military children

Montana belongs to the interstate compact that smooths school moves for military children. It speeds up enrollment when records have not arrived, keeps state-to-state differences in attendance, scheduling, sequencing, grading, course content and assessment from holding your child back, protects eligibility for programs and extracurricular activities, and helps your child graduate on time.

How to apply

Work with your school district first. If that does not settle it, submit an MIC3 assistance request. You can also call the Montana points of contact at 406-842-5039, 406-596-5039 or 406-217-1173.

What you'll need

Your military orders showing the move, and whatever school records you have from the previous district.

Eligibility

  • Your child is enrolled in a Montana public school
  • You are an active duty service member, or a service member medically discharged, retired or deceased within the last year
