Being stationed outside Montana with a completed Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Rider Course lets you add a motorcycle endorsement to your Montana driver license without taking a road skills test at an exam station.

How to apply

Contact the Motor Vehicles Division at DriverLicense@mt.gov or 406-444-3933 to request a proctor agreement, submit the skills test waiver application certifying your Basic Rider Course, then pass the Montana motorcycle written test under an approved proctor. Mail, email or fax the paperwork to Montana Motor Vehicle Division, PO Box 201430, Helena MT 59620-1430.

What you'll need

Your certificate of completion for a Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Rider Course taken within the past year, your orders showing you are stationed outside Montana, and a proctor agreement.

Eligibility

  • You are serving on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces and are stationed outside Montana
  • You completed a Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Rider Course within the past year
  • You pass the Montana motorcycle written test under an approved proctor
