Every member of the Minnesota National Guard is covered by $1,000 of state sponsored life insurance at no cost, and new recruits get $10,000 free for their first year if they enroll within 180 days of joining. Beyond that you can buy voluntary group coverage totalling more than $1,000,000, with coverage available for your spouse and children. Rates do not go up when you separate from the National Guard, coverage runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and there is no war or aviation exclusion.
