Nebraska adds 5% to your passing score on a Nebraska state or local government employment examination, and another 5% if you are a disabled veteran. The spouse of an active duty service member gets the same preference, and keeps it for up to 180 days after the service member is discharged. Job notices and applications covered by the preference have to say so, and if you apply and are not hired you must be notified and told about any administrative appeal available.
Claim the preference when you apply for a Nebraska state or local government position and attach your supporting documents to the application.
Your DD214, your VA disability documentation if you are claiming the extra 5%, and a marriage certificate plus your service member’s orders or discharge paperwork if you are claiming as a spouse.
