A copy of your discharge documents at no charge

The Nebraska Department of Veterans' Affairs keeps thousands of Nebraska veterans' discharge documents and will send you a copy on request. If you entered service from Nebraska and returned here when you separated, your discharge may be on file.

How to apply

Fill in the records request form at the bottom of the NDVA discharge documents page, or ask your county veterans service office if you filed a copy with the county. If neither holds it, request it from the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis using Standard Form 180 or the National Archives online request page. For help, call 402-471-2458.

What you'll need

Your name, service dates and branch, and enough identifying information for NDVA or the records center to find the file.

Eligibility

  • You served in the U.S. Armed Forces, or you are the survivor of someone who did
  • You entered service from Nebraska and returned to Nebraska when you separated, or you filed a copy of the discharge with a Nebraska county
