Nebraska Veterans Aid Fund

Temporary emergency aid for specific living and medical costs

You can get temporary emergency help when something unforeseen disrupts your life and other resources are not available right away. The money can only be used for food, fuel, shelter, transportation, daycare, clothing, funeral expenses, and medical and surgical expenses.

How to apply

Apply through your nearest NDVA state service office, through the county veterans service office where you live, or through the post service officer of a recognized veterans organization in or near your county.

What you'll need

Your DD214 or discharge paperwork, documentation of the emergency such as bills or notices, and proof of your relationship to the veteran if you are applying as a spouse or dependent.

Eligibility

  • You are facing an unforeseen emergency and other resources are not immediately available to you
  • You need the money for food, fuel, shelter, transportation, daycare, clothing, funeral expenses, or medical or surgical expenses
  • You served on active duty other than for training with an honorable or general (under honorable conditions) discharge, or you are the dependent of an eligible veteran, or you are the survivor of someone who died on active duty or as a direct result of their service, or you are a U.S. citizen who served honorably in an allied government’s forces during an established wartime period
