Nevada Tuition Waiver for Children and Surviving Spouse of Nevada National Guard Service Members Killed in the Line of Duty

Nevada System of Higher Education, through each state college and university
Resident tuition and lab fees waived for up to 10 years

If your parent or spouse was a Nevada National Guard member killed in the line of duty, your resident tuition and lab fees are waived at state supported colleges and universities. A child can use the waiver for 10 years after turning 18, or for 10 years from enrollment if they enroll before 18. A surviving spouse can use it for 10 years after the date of death. The waiver is not available at the William S. Boyd School of Law, the University of Nevada School of Medicine, or the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine.

Contact the school you plan to attend and ask its veterans services or financial aid office to apply the waiver.

What you'll need

Documentation that the service member was killed in the line of duty, and proof of your relationship such as a birth certificate or marriage certificate.

Eligibility

  • You are the child or surviving spouse of a Nevada National Guard service member who was killed in the line of duty
  • You are enrolled at a Nevada state supported college or university
  • You maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average
  • You are inside your 10-year window, which for a child runs from your 18th birthday or from enrollment if you enrolled before 18, and for a surviving spouse runs from the date of death
