New Hampshire Property Tax Exemption for Homes Acquired or Modified with VA Assistance

Local New Hampshire city or town tax collector or assessing office
Full exemption from New Hampshire property tax on the home

Your home is exempt from all property tax if the VA helped you buy or adapt it and you have a qualifying service-connected disability. A surviving spouse of an eligible veteran can claim the exemption too.

How to apply

Apply through the tax collector or assessing office in the city or town where your home is, not the state, and show that the VA helped you acquire or modify the home.

What you'll need

Your VA documentation showing the assistance you received toward buying or adapting the home, your VA rating letter or medical documentation of blindness, paraplegia or amputation, discharge paperwork showing a discharge other than dishonorable, and proof you own and live in the home.

Eligibility

  • You own and live in a home in a New Hampshire city or town
  • The home was acquired or modified with assistance from the VA
  • The veteran received a discharge other than dishonorable
  • You have a service-connected 100 percent total and permanent disability rating or are declared individually unemployable, you have service-connected blindness, you are a paraplegic or double amputee because of service in the U.S. Armed Forces, or you are the surviving spouse of a veteran who meets one of these
