You get a hiring preference for New Hampshire state and local government jobs, State Liquor Commission jobs, and jobs at the New Hampshire Veterans Home. Disabled veterans, unremarried surviving spouses of wartime veterans, and spouses of totally disabled resident wartime veterans also qualify for the state and local government preference.

How to apply

Claim the preference when you apply, through the hiring agency: the Division of Personnel for state positions, the municipality for local government positions, the State Liquor Commission, or the New Hampshire Veterans Home.

What you'll need

Your DD214 showing an honorable discharge and your wartime service dates, plus a marriage certificate, death certificate or the veteran’s VA rating letter if you are claiming as a spouse or surviving spouse.

Eligibility

  • You are applying for a New Hampshire state or local government position, a State Liquor Commission position, or a position at the New Hampshire Veterans Home
  • You received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Armed Forces, or you are the unremarried surviving spouse of a wartime veteran or the spouse of a totally disabled resident wartime veteran
  • If you are applying for a State Liquor Commission or a state or local government position, you served at least 90 days of active duty during a wartime period
