New Jersey 100% Disabled Veterans Property Tax Exemption

Local New Jersey municipal tax assessor or tax collector
Full exemption from property tax on your primary residence

Your primary residence can be fully exempt from New Jersey property tax if you have a service-connected 100 percent total and permanent disability rating. There is no cap on the value exempted and no income test. A surviving spouse, civil union partner or domestic partner who has not remarried or formed a new partnership keeps the exemption.

How to apply

Apply through your local municipal tax assessor or tax collector, not the state. File the completed claim form with the documentation listed on it, including your VA certification.

What you'll need

Certification from the VA that you have a service-connected 100 percent total and permanent disability rating from active duty service, proof of your honorable discharge, proof you are a New Jersey legal resident, and proof you own and live in the home. A surviving spouse also needs proof the veteran was a New Jersey resident at the time of death and proof they have not remarried or formed a new civil union or domestic partnership.

Eligibility

  • You are a legal resident of New Jersey
  • You own the home and occupy it as your main home and residence
  • You served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces and received an honorable discharge, or you are the unremarried surviving spouse, civil union partner or domestic partner of a veteran who was honorably discharged from active duty or died while serving on active duty
  • You can provide VA certification of a service-connected 100 percent total and permanent disability rating
