Before a New Jersey department head can dismiss you as a veteran state employee, they have to give the Civil Service Commission their reason for releasing you. You are entitled to appear before the Commission about keeping your job.

There is nothing to file in advance. If you are told you will be dismissed, contact the New Jersey Civil Service Commission to request your appearance.

What you'll need

Your DD214 or WD 53-55 establishing veteran status, and the notice of dismissal or release from your department.
