You get extra time to file and pay New Jersey income tax if you serve in a combat zone. New Jersey follows the federal rule and gives you 180 days after you redeploy, or after you are released from hospitalization for an injury or illness you received in a combat zone, to file your return and pay anything you owe.
There is nothing to file in advance. File your New Jersey return within 180 days of redeployment or release from hospitalization and note your combat zone service, as described in the Division of Taxation military tax guidance.
Your orders or Leave and Earnings Statements showing your combat zone service dates, or hospital records showing your release date.
