New Jersey will waive the behind-the-wheel skills test for a commercial driver licence if you drove the military equivalent of a commercial motor vehicle. You still take the knowledge and vision tests.
Submit the Application for Military Skills Test Waiver, certified by your commanding officer, to the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, and take the CDL knowledge and vision test.
Proof you served in an active or reserve component within the last 12 months in a position requiring the operation of a military vehicle equivalent to a commercial motor vehicle, a current or expired military vehicle operator’s permit, a valid New Jersey driver licence, the waiver application certified by your commanding officer, Six Points of ID and proof of primary address, and a CDL Holder Self-Certificate and Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
