New Jersey Prisoner of War or Missing in Action Tuition Benefit Program

New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DVA)
Free undergraduate tuition at a New Jersey public or private institution

You can attend a New Jersey public or private college tuition free if your parent was declared a prisoner of war or missing in action after January 1, 1960. You have to have been born or adopted before or during the time your parent was a POW or MIA.

How to apply

Contact the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Veterans Benefits Bureau at 609-530-6949 or vbb@dva.nj.gov, and provide a copy of your parent’s DD1300 when you apply.

What you'll need

A copy of your parent’s DD1300 report of casualty, proof of your relationship to them, and proof of your parent’s New Jersey residency or official state of residence.

Eligibility

  • You are the child of a service member who was declared a prisoner of war or missing in action after January 1, 1960
  • You were born or adopted before or during the time your parent was declared a prisoner of war or missing in action
  • Your parent was a New Jersey resident when they entered the U.S. Armed Forces, or their official state of residence is New Jersey
  • You are enrolled in undergraduate study at a New Jersey public or private educational institution
