New Jersey Service Medals

New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DVA)
Up to seven state service medals, one award of each

New Jersey awards seven state medals recognising the service of eligible resident veterans: the Distinguished Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, POW-MIA Medal, Desert Storm Medal and Global War on Terrorism Medal. You cannot receive the same medal more than once, and all of them can be awarded posthumously.

How to apply

Complete the New Jersey Department of Military Affairs application for state medals online, or mail the completed application and the documentation listed on it to NJ Dept of Military Affairs, Attn: DVS-VBB (Medals), P.O. Box 340, Trenton, NJ 08625-0340, or fax 609-530-6970. For help, email njservicemedals@dma.nj.gov.

What you'll need

Your DD214 or other discharge paperwork showing your service dates, locations and character of service, proof of New Jersey residency, and any award citations relevant to the medal you are claiming.

Eligibility

  • You are a New Jersey resident veteran, or the family member of one applying posthumously
  • You meet the service and residency requirements for at least one of the seven New Jersey service medals
