If you are a New Jersey resident veteran who received the Medal of Honor, the Distinguished Service Cross, the Air Force Cross or the Navy Cross, you can be hired or promoted in state employment without going through the Civil Service Commission rules. This applies to every promotion or appointment you apply for.

Tell the hiring state agency about your award when you apply, and provide the award documentation. The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs can help you document it.

What you'll need

Your award citation or DD214 showing the Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, Air Force Cross or Navy Cross, and proof of New Jersey residency.

Eligibility

  • You are a New Jersey resident
  • You are a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces
  • You were awarded the Medal of Honor, the Distinguished Service Cross, the Air Force Cross or the Navy Cross
