If New Jersey lays off state employees, disabled veterans are kept first, then other veterans, ahead of non-veterans.

How to apply

There is nothing to apply for at the time of a layoff. Make sure your veterans or disabled veterans preference is already on file with the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.

What you'll need

Your DD214 or WD 53-55, and a VA Benefit Summary Letter if you are claiming disabled veterans status.

Eligibility

  • You are a New Jersey state employee
  • You are a veteran or disabled veteran with New Jersey veterans preference
