New Mexico Gold Star Family License Plate

New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division (MVD)
First set of plates free for an eligible surviving spouse or parent

Immediate family of a service member killed in armed conflict can get the New Mexico Gold Star Family license plate. Eligible family members are the surviving spouse, a parent, a child or a sibling. The first set of plates is free for an eligible surviving spouse or parent.

How to apply

Mail the Application for Gold Star Family License Plate, which is separate from the general military plate application, to the Motor Vehicle Division, Vehicle Services Bureau, PO Box 1028, Santa Fe NM 87504-1028.

What you'll need

A copy of the service member’s DD1300 Report of Casualty or DD3 Application for Gold Star Lapel Button. A surviving spouse also needs a copy of the marriage license.

Eligibility

  • You are a New Mexico vehicle owner
  • You are the surviving spouse, parent, child or sibling of a service member killed in armed conflict while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces
