New Mexico Heroes to Highways Commercial Driver License Military Skills Test Waiver

New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division (MVD)
CDL skills test waived; the knowledge test still applies

If you have military commercial driving experience but not one of the specialties that qualify for the even exchange, New Mexico waives the skills test for your commercial driver license. You still have to take the knowledge test.

Send the Application for Military Skills Test Waiver, including certification by your commanding officer, by mail, fax or email to the New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division, Commercial Driver License Unit, 2546 Camino Entrada, Santa Fe NM 87507, fax 505-476-1578, email NMCDL.HelpDesk@state.nm.us. What you'll need

Your completed application with your commanding officer’s certification, and documentation that you have been licensed for at least two years on a military vehicle similar to the commercial class you want.

Eligibility

  • You are applying for a New Mexico commercial driver license
  • You are serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, or you separated within the past year
  • You have been licensed for at least two years on a military vehicle similar to the class of commercial vehicle you want
  • You have not held more than one driver license other than a military license, and have not had a license suspended, revoked or cancelled, in the past two years
  • You have no disqualifying offense convictions, no more than one serious traffic violation conviction, and no traffic control violation from an accident or at-fault accident on your record in the past two years
