If you are the nonresident dependent of a nonresident service member who was killed while serving on active duty, you pay in-state tuition at New Mexico institutions of higher learning. You have to move to New Mexico within 60 days of the death to qualify.

Give the admissions office at your New Mexico school the casualty documentation and proof that you moved to New Mexico within 60 days of the death.

What you'll need

The service member’s report of casualty or death certificate, proof of your dependency, and proof of the date you moved to New Mexico.

Eligibility

  • You are enrolled at a New Mexico institution of higher learning
  • You are the dependent of a nonresident service member who was killed while serving on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces
  • You moved to New Mexico within 60 days of the death
