You can exclude up to $30,000 of military retired pay from your New Mexico personal income tax. Retired pay above that amount is still taxed by the state.
There is nothing to apply for. Claim the exemption on your New Mexico personal income tax return for the year, and keep your Form 1099-R with your tax records.
