5 or 10 points added to a passing examination score

Points are added to your passing score on public employment screening examinations. Honorably discharged veterans and anyone currently serving in the National Guard get 5 points. Honorably discharged veterans with a service-connected disability get 10 points.

How to apply

Claim the preference when you apply for public employment and submit your supporting documents. For questions about eligibility, contact the New Mexico State Personnel Office.

What you'll need

Your DD214 showing an honorable discharge, proof of current National Guard service if you are claiming on that basis, and your VA disability documentation if you are claiming the 10-point preference.

Eligibility

  • You are applying for New Mexico public employment
  • You received an honorable discharge, or you are currently serving in the National Guard
  • You achieve a final passing numerical score on the screening examination
