New Mexico State Forestry Division Returning Heroes Wildland Firefighter Program

New Mexico State Forestry Division, Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department

Paid wildland firefighting employment and training

Former service members can be hired as wildland firefighters, training as a 10-person hand crew and working alongside engine crews on prescribed burns, containment lines and mop-up along fire perimeters. It is run jointly by the New Mexico Forestry Division, Workforce Solutions and the Department of Veterans’ Services.
