Burial for veterans and eligible family members at three state cemeteries

New Mexico runs three state veterans cemeteries for veterans and their eligible family members: Fort Stanton at 1398 State Highway 220, Fort Stanton, phone 505-205-6707; Gallup at 333 National Cemetery Drive, phone 575-921-3494; and Angel Fire at 31 Onate Road, phone 505-225-4341. Eligibility matches the rules for VA national cemeteries.

How to apply

Complete the pre-application for burial to establish your eligibility before there is a need. To arrange a burial, contact the cemetery directly; for anything else, call 505-231-8911.

What you'll need

Your DD214 or other discharge paperwork, and a marriage certificate or proof of dependency for family members.

Eligibility

  • You were discharged from active duty under conditions other than dishonorable, died while serving on active duty, served at least 20 years in the National Guard or U.S. Armed Forces Reserves and qualified for military retired pay or would have qualified but for death before age 60, or were a reserve component member activated for federal service
  • Your spouse and dependent children qualify through you, with dependent children limited to unmarried children under 21, under 23 if a full-time student at an approved institution, or a child who developed a lifelong disability before age 21
