New Mexico Wartime Veterans' Scholarship

New Mexico Department of Veterans' Services (NMDVS)
Tuition, fees and books at a New Mexico state-funded school

Tuition, fees and books are covered for New Mexico resident veterans who served during a wartime campaign and are accepted into an undergraduate, master’s or doctoral program at a state-funded school. The award runs for one academic year and can be renewed if you keep making satisfactory progress.

How to apply

Send the NMDVS Application for Wartime Veterans’ Scholarship with proof of residency and a certified copy of your DD214 to the New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Services, 407 Galisteo Street Rm 134, Santa Fe NM 87501, or email it to vet.benefits@dvs.nm.gov. For help, call 866-433-8387.

What you'll need

A certified copy of your DD214 showing a qualifying campaign medal and an honorable discharge, plus proof of New Mexico residency.

Eligibility

  • You were a New Mexico resident when you entered the U.S. Armed Forces, or you have lived in New Mexico for 10 years or more
  • You were awarded the Southwest Asia Service Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, or any other medal issued for service during a military campaign or armed conflict defined by Congress or executive order
  • You received an honorable discharge
  • You have been accepted into an undergraduate, master’s or doctoral program at a New Mexico state-funded school
