New York Patriot Plan Educational Leave of Absence for Service Members Called to Active Duty

Your New York college or university, under the New York Patriot Plan
Non-punitive withdrawal plus a refund or credit of tuition and campus fees

Students who are called to active duty part way through a semester get a non-punitive withdrawal instead of failing grades, and can choose either a refund or a credit of their tuition and campus fees.

How to apply

Give your school a copy of your active duty orders within seven days of receiving them, or sign an affidavit and provide an address or telephone number where the orders can be verified. Contact your institution’s financial aid office to arrange the withdrawal and the refund or credit.

What you'll need

A copy of your orders to active duty, or a signed affidavit with contact details where the orders can be verified.

Eligibility

  • You are a student at a New York educational institution
  • You were called to active duty service in the U.S. Armed Forces
  • You cannot complete the semester because of that call to active duty
